An afternoon of DIY Disaster

During the day I have a habit of spending many hours on pinterest, normally looking at crochet patterns or recipes, but I also like the occasional DIY project (ok, so I look at almost every DIY project with a longing to be able to be that crafty and wonderful). Recently I found a yarn wreath project and being the crocheter that I am I thought it would reflect my personality to have a wreath made out of yarn balls. I looked at a few tutorials but all of them required materials that I can't get where I live(yay for middle of nowhere) so I decided to use what I had around and make my own adaption to the yarn wreath. The tutorials I read required a wire wreath ring and so my idea to replace that was a metal clothes hanger, it didn't seem like it would be too difficult to maneuver into the shape I wanted it in, but it was, the hanger was in two pieces so my real part was getting the two pieces to form a circle and stay together. This was a fight in and of it's self without all the other challenges of this project. The second part of this project is what I have titled "assemble the minions." I went about winding balls of yarn and it was just simply annoying, this is something that would be much better to do with more than one person(like an army of minions perhaps). Once I got the yarn balls made I started pushing them through the wire and then decided I wanted to add some Christmas ornaments to give this project a little sparkle but the ornaments that I had were very big so I took all the yarn balls off and slid the ornaments through the wire in a pattern with the yarn balls instead of gluing them on like I originally planned. I spent quite a bit of time fixing the ornaments that broke as I tried to push yarn balls back through the wire but eventually I was satisfied and closed up the two pieces of wire with hot glue and then glued on a smaller ornament to hide the glue and metal. To finish I glued a ribbon on the top to hang the wreath. Overall, it doesn't look terrible but I don't claim to be a craft pro and in hindsight there were probably easier ways to do this project, but you learn as you go and I'll know for next time.

Here are the pictures of the process and how the project turned out :)
and one last thing, when assembling your materials if you so desire to give this project a try, don't forget the coffee :) no coffee=no creating!

Child size Peacock Hat Pattern

So I recently made a Peacock crochet hat for my cousin. When I originally got this request I didn't know what to do so I found a couple of pictures online but no patterns. Eventually I found a picture that my cousin liked but again, no pattern, so it was up to me just go kind of figure it out. So this is my weak attempt at trying to write a pattern and share what I did. It's basically just a basic beanie with the feathers attached.

Materials: Loops and Threads Charisma yarn in Sunny Day(available at Michaels Craft Stores)
Peacock Feathers( I found mine in the floral section at Michaels Craft Store)
               H/5.00 mm Crochet hook
               optional: button

Pattern:

Chain 3
Round  1: 12 DC in 3rd chain from hook, join with a slip stitch
Round 2: Chain 3, DC in same spot. 2 DC around, join with a slip stitch
Round 3: Chain 3,* 2DC in Next stitch, DC in next stitch* repeat from * to * around, join with slip stitch
Round 4: Chain 3, *2DC in next stitch, DC in next two stitches* repeat from * to* around, join with slip stitch

Round 7: Chain 3 *2DC in next stitch, DC in next 5 stitches* repeat from *to* around, join with slip stitch
Round 8-14 Chain 3 at beginning of each round and DC all the way around, join every round with a slip stitch
Round 15: SC all the way around, fasten off

When I was finished I arranged the peacock feathers on the hat and sewed them on. I sewed a button over the stitches to hide them. You can attach them however you want for your liking.

Hat is now complete :)

If you have any questions on this pattern please let me know as this was my first pattern  that I have written down.

Introduction/rambling/ that kind of stuff

It doesn't matter how much thought you put into the presentation, introduction blogs are just awkward. It's like what can I say about myself to make you keep reading. I'm not interesting, or intelligent, I don't have a neat skill...in fact, the skill I will blog about most(crochet) is one that thousands of other people will blog about. There is nothing I can say that will set me apart, but regardless, I like to talk and I like to share the small snips of cool/ interesting things in my life. So here it goes....

I'm Jordan, and I'm a 20 year old college student studying Children's Ministry. The name of my blog comes from two things: My love for Jesus and my love for Crochet, both of these things are a major part of who I am. The word chosen comes from the verse 1 Peter 2: 9-10 which says, "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people but now you are God's people; Once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy." This verse is a great reminder to me that I'm God's chosen child and he has shown me great mercy and I am who I am because of Jesus. The second part of my name is pretty obvious, it' stitch, because well as I mentioned before, I crochet. I'm not talking about a little crochet though, I'm talking about like a lot of crochet. I'm actually working on a hat right now in between the sentences I type. So here's a disclaimer now, if the sentence I type goes off track from the sentence before there is a good chance I was probably crocheting something while blogging. Jesus and crochet are a big part of me but I constantly surprise even myself by some of the crazy things I decide to do. I'm always finding some DIY project to do or coming up with some kind of experiment in the kitchen( I love to cook! and my experiments in the kitchen pretty much rock). I'm pretty much a potpourri of different things and I'd love for you to journey with me through life, crochet, and the crazy stuff I come up with!
